Nail Extensions
Nowadays, the use of nail extensions has become very popular thanks to the various techniques for easy application. Though they used to be hard to wear and to remove, the development of new materials and application methods, such as fiberglass, silk, acrylic, gel, makes nail extensions lighter and firmer, just like real healthy nails.
A variety of shapes and thickness allows for choosing the ones that really suit every person’s nail type. Though sometimes they do not survive harsh work environments, they are very suitable for special events or to replace a broken nail so you don’t have to trim them all.
When choosing nail extensions for every day use, there are some habits which may be considered, such as wearing gloves to do housework and avoiding situations where they could easily get damaged.
Another benefit of using extensions is the fact that they allow the natural nail to grow under. In addition, they are taken off with a special remover which makes the job easier than it used to. However, in case of using nail varnish, the remover must not contain acetone, since it may remove or damage the extension.
Nail extensions are applied from the middle part of the nail with a specific adhesive that comes with them. The border between both nails is polished and hidden by resin and a little piece of fiberglass, which will go unnoticed when the final nail varnish is applied. Another option is to combine extensions with overlays in order to fortify their tips and enlarge their good condition.
Nail wraps are also often used for the same purpose. Silk and fiberglass are the most popular, because they have a natural appearance, but linen is the strongest, though they look a little thicker. Paper can patch a flaw in a hurry, but won’t last even in good conditions. The convenience of every material depends on the type of natural nail. Silk and fiberglass are mostly recommended for those who have strong nails; while linen nails suit those with damaged and weak natural nails.
Nail extensions can last between 3 and 6 months, depending on the natural nail growth rate, but the inner area requires filling every two weeks which is essential to avoid nail fungus infections.
To apply acrylic or gel nail extensions, the following nail extension supplies are needed:
- A glass bowl
- Acrylic nail supply
- A brush
- A good nail filer
- Resin
- Fiberglass
- Nails adhesive
- Tips softener / remover
- Artificial nail tips
Many acrylic nail extension supply packs contain all these items. However, professional application takes professional skills and plenty of practice. That is why it is important to look for the right nail technician, not only in order to achieve good results, but also to ensure good conditions during the application, maintenance, and removal of nail extensions. Also, keep in mind that low quality products may damage your natural nails.
